CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY
Classes include but are not limited to topics such as, gangs, dispatch center operations, criminal investigations, narcotics investigations, forensics and crime scene investigations, K9, and the pistol range. Learning is reinforced by practical exercises.
To attend the academy, participants must: be 18 years of age or older, complete an application for enrollment, and pass a limited background investigation.
The Citizens Academy is offered in the Spring and Fall of each year. The Spring 2012 session dates are March 29 - June 21. Visit the "About The Citizens Police Academy" page on this site to find out more about the academy, and how to obtain an application to enroll.
Classes are held on Thursday nights from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Second Patrol
Division, located at 2500 North Military Highway near

CITIZENS’ POLICE ACADEMY AND CPAAAN
Upon graduation from the academy, citizens have the opportunity to join CPAAAN, the Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association of Norfolk, whose mission is “to support law enforcement in Norfolk, Virginia through education, information, networking, community service and volunteerism.” CPAAAN members are very active within their communities and assist the police department during the Citizens’ Police Academy sessions as well as with a variety of other events such as the Basic Recruit Academy graduation ceremonies.
